How to Set a Default App on Android
If you have an Android device, you’ve probably experienced situations where the system asks which app to use when opening a link or file. To avoid this prompt every time, you can set a default app. Let’s go through the process step by step.
Step 1: Open Settings
Start by opening the Settings on your Android device. You can find it in the app menu or swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the gear icon.
Step 2: Go to the "Apps" Section
In the settings menu, tap on "Apps" or "Applications", depending on your Android version and device model. Here, you will see a list of all the installed apps.
Step 3: Select "Default Apps"
Look for and tap the "Default Apps" option. On some versions of Android, you may find this option under "Advanced" or "Special Access" settings.
Step 4: Configure Your Default Apps
In this section, you can choose which app to use by default for different tasks:
- Browser: Choose an app for opening web links.
- Messaging: Set an app for sending SMS messages.
- Phone: Choose an app for making calls.
- Gallery: Select an app for viewing photos.
Step 5: Set Your Default App
To change the default app, tap on the category you want (e.g., browser or messaging), and select your preferred app from the list. From now on, this app will automatically be used for the chosen action.
