How to Change DNS Server on iPhone

If you want to speed up your internet connection, increase security, or bypass restrictions, changing your DNS server on iPhone can be a great solution. In this guide, we’ll show you how to easily update your DNS settings on iPhone.

What is a DNS Server and Why Should You Change It?

DNS (Domain Name System) is a system that translates web addresses (like www.example.com) into IP addresses that your device can understand. Switching to alternative DNS servers like Google DNS, Cloudflare, or OpenDNS may improve website loading speed and enhance security.

How to Change DNS Server on iPhone: Steps

  1. Open Wi-Fi Settings

Go to “Settings” and select the “Wi-Fi” section. Make sure you are connected to the desired Wi-Fi network.

  2. Select Your Network and Access Settings

Find the connected Wi-Fi network and tap the “i” (information) icon next to its name.

  3. Modify DNS Settings

Scroll down to the “DNS” section and select “Configure DNS”. It is usually set to “Automatic” by default. Change it to “Manual”.

  4. Add a New DNS Server

Tap “Add Server” and enter the IP address of the DNS server you want to use. Here are some popular options:

    • Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    • Cloudflare DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
    • OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
  5. Remove Old DNS Servers

Delete any previous DNS servers by tapping the “minus” icon next to them.

  6. Save Changes

Tap “Save” in the upper right corner of the screen. Your iPhone will now use the new DNS servers.

What to Do If the Internet Stops Working After Changing DNS?

If your internet connection isn’t working after updating the DNS servers, try the following steps:

  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Double-check the DNS IP addresses you entered.
  • Go back to Wi-Fi settings and set DNS back to “Automatic”.
