How to Change Screen Timeout on iPhone

Your iPhone automatically turns off the screen after a certain period of inactivity to save battery and prevent accidental taps. However, the default settings may not always be convenient, and you might want to increase or decrease the time before the screen turns off. In this article, we'll show you how to easily adjust the screen timeout on your iPhone.

Step 1: Open Settings

First, open the “Settings” app on your iPhone. It’s the gray gear icon usually located on your Home Screen.

Step 2: Go to “Display & Brightness”

In the settings menu, find the “Display & Brightness” option. Tap on it to access more display settings.

Step 3: Access Auto-Lock Settings

Within the “Display & Brightness” section, look for the “Auto-Lock” option. Tap on it to adjust the time before your screen automatically locks.

Step 4: Choose Your Preferred Time

In the “Auto-Lock” menu, you’ll see a list of time options ranging from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, as well as a “Never” option. Select the time that best suits your needs. For instance, if you want the screen to stay on longer, choose 3 or 5 minutes.

Step 5: Save Your Changes

Once you've chosen your preferred time, tap the back button to save your settings. Now, your iPhone will automatically lock the screen according to the time you selected.

Tips and Tricks

  • Using Low Power Mode: Keep in mind that if Low Power Mode is enabled on your iPhone, the auto-lock feature is set to 30 seconds by default. You’ll need to turn off Low Power Mode to customize the auto-lock time.
  • “Never” Option: If you choose the “Never” option, your iPhone screen won’t turn off automatically, which can be useful for reading long texts or showing photos, but it may drain your battery faster.
