How to Access Playback and Recording Devices in Windows 10

Windows 10 provides users with easy access to audio device settings, making it simple to select and configure devices for sound playback and recording. Follow these steps to quickly access the necessary settings.

Step 1: Open the "Settings" Menu

First, press the Win + I keys simultaneously to open the “Settings” menu. Alternatively, right-click on the “Start” button and select “Settings” from the dropdown list.

Step 2: Navigate to the "System" Section

In the settings window, select the “System” category, then click on the “Sound” tab on the left. Here, you’ll find all available options for managing sound on your device.

Step 3: Choose Playback and Recording Devices

On the “Sound” page, you’ll see the “Output” and “Input” sections, representing playback (output) and recording (input) devices.

  • For Playback Devices: In the “Output” section, select your primary playback device, such as headphones or speakers.
  • For Recording Devices: In the “Input” section, select the device you want to use for recording, like a microphone.
