How to Add an Input Language or Keyboard Layout in Windows

Adding an input language or keyboard layout in Windows is simple yet essential, especially if you need to work with text in multiple languages. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you quickly set up additional input languages in your Windows system.

Step 1: Open Settings

First, open Windows Settings. You can do this by pressing Win + I or by selecting Settings from the Start menu.

Step 2: Go to “Time & Language”

In the Settings window, select Time & Language, then click on Language & Region in the left-hand menu.

Step 3: Add a New Language

In the “Languages” section, look for the button labeled Add a language. Click on it, and a list of available languages will appear. Use the search to find your desired language, select it, and click Next.

Step 4: Set Language Options

After selecting your language, you'll see a few options, such as enabling spell check or adding voice input (if available). Choose the options you want and click Install to add the new language to your system.

Step 5: Switch Between Languages

To switch between input languages, use the Alt + Shift or Win + Space key combination (depending on your system settings). You can also change languages by clicking on the language icon in the bottom right corner of your screen (on the taskbar).

Additional Keyboard Layout Options

If you want to change the keyboard layout for a specific language (for example, to use a Dvorak layout or another alternative), go back to the Language & Region menu, select the language, click Options, and choose your desired layout.
