How to Change or Remove Your Avatar in Windows 10
Your avatar in Windows 10 is the image displayed on the login screen and in the Start menu. It adds a personal touch to the interface. If you'd like to update or completely remove your current picture, follow these simple steps.
How to Change Your Avatar in Windows 10
- Open Settings. Click on the Start menu, select Settings (gear icon), or use the shortcut Win + I.
- Go to Account settings. In the Settings menu, select Accounts, then click on Your info.
- Replace your avatar. In the "Your picture" section, click on Browse to select a new picture from your computer. You can choose any saved image or take a photo using your device's camera.
- Apply changes. Once you've selected a new image, it will automatically be saved and displayed during login.
How to Remove Your Avatar in Windows 10
If you'd like to remove your avatar and leave the space blank or revert to the default account image, Windows 10 doesn't provide a direct way to do this, but there are some alternative methods:
Removing the Avatar through File Explorer
- Open File Explorer. Open File Explorer and go to the following path:
C:\Users\Your_Account\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPictures
- Locate your avatar image. In the AccountPictures folder, you’ll find previously used avatar files. You can delete any images you no longer need.
- Delete the image. Select and delete any unwanted images.
Reverting to the Default Account Image
If you'd like to go back to the default account icon, you can find it online or simply choose a blank image (like a white background) and set it as your avatar. This will remove all personalized avatars, displaying only your name on the login screen.
