How to Change Your Computer Name in Windows 10

Changing your computer name in Windows 10 can be useful for making it easier to identify on a network or simply to personalize your device. This process is straightforward and only takes a few steps. In this article, we’ll guide you through it.

Step 1: Open System Settings

First, go to the Start menu and select Settings (gear icon). Or, use the Win + I keyboard shortcut to open the settings window directly.

Step 2: Go to the “System” Section

In the settings window, select System. Then, in the left menu, scroll down and click on About.

Step 3: Find the “Rename This PC” Option

In the About section, you’ll see your computer's current name. Next to it, there’s a button labeled Rename This PC. Click on it.

Step 4: Enter a New Name

A window will appear asking you to enter a new name for your computer. Choose a short, clear name using letters, numbers, and hyphens (without spaces). For example: MyLaptop2021.

Step 5: Restart Your Computer

After entering the new name, click Next and confirm the change. Windows will prompt you to restart your computer to apply the new name. Agree and restart the device.
