How to Check Your Computer’s RAM Capacity
Knowing the amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) in your computer can be helpful for improving performance, planning an upgrade, or simply understanding your device’s specifications. Here are some simple methods for checking your RAM on both Windows and macOS systems.
1. Checking RAM on Windows
Using Task Manager
One of the quickest ways to find out your computer’s RAM capacity in Windows is through the Task Manager. Here’s how:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Performance tab.
- On the left, select Memory. Here, you’ll see the total RAM installed, as well as current usage and load statistics.
Using the System Settings
Another way to check RAM information is through Windows’ System settings:
- Open the Start menu and click on Settings (gear icon).
- Select System, then go to About.
- Here, you’ll find details about your processor, RAM, and other system specifications.
Using Command Prompt
If you prefer using Command Prompt, follow these steps:
- Press Win + R, type

2. Checking RAM on macOS
Using “About This Mac”
On a Mac, you can find your RAM information through the “About This Mac” menu:
- Click on the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of the screen.
- Select About This Mac.
- Under the Overview tab, you’ll see information on your Mac model, processor, and RAM capacity.
Using Activity Monitor
You can also view current RAM usage with Activity Monitor:
