How to Connect AirPods to a Windows Computer or Laptop
Many users wonder if they can connect their Apple AirPods to devices running Windows. While AirPods are designed primarily for Apple’s ecosystem, they can be used on other platforms, including Windows computers and laptops. This guide will walk you through the steps to connect your AirPods to a Windows device.
Step 1: Enable Bluetooth on Your Computer
First, make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your computer or laptop:
- Click on Start and select Settings.
- Go to the Devices section and choose Bluetooth & Other Devices.
- Turn on the Bluetooth switch if it’s not already enabled.
Step 2: Open the AirPods Case
Take your AirPods case and open the lid. Keep the AirPods inside the case as they need to stay in for the pairing process.
Step 3: Put AirPods in Pairing Mode
To make AirPods discoverable by other devices:
- Locate the small button on the back of the AirPods case.
- Press and hold this button until the indicator light starts flashing white. This means your AirPods are in pairing mode and ready to connect.
Step 4: Add the Device on Windows
Now you need to add your AirPods as a new device on your computer:
- In the Bluetooth & Other Devices section, select Add Bluetooth or other device.
- In the pop-up window, choose Bluetooth.
- Your computer will begin searching for devices, and within a few seconds, you should see AirPods appear.
- Select AirPods from the list to complete the connection.
Step 5: Verify the Connection
Once connected, you’ll see a notification confirming that your AirPods are connected to your computer. You can now use them to listen to music, watch videos, or communicate in audio-supported apps. If audio doesn’t play through the AirPods, go to sound settings and select AirPods as your default playback device.

- If AirPods don’t connect, try restarting your computer and repeating the pairing process.
- Sometimes, removing the device in Bluetooth settings and pairing it again can resolve connection issues.
- For the best sound quality, keep your AirPods charged and regularly update your computer's Bluetooth drivers.
