How to Create a Microsoft Edge Shortcut on Your Desktop

Creating a desktop shortcut for Microsoft Edge can make it quicker to open the browser with just one click. Follow these easy steps to set up an Edge shortcut on your computer.

Step 1: Open the Installation Folder

In many cases, Edge already has a shortcut on the desktop, but if it’s missing, you can easily create one manually. First, locate the program’s executable file, usually installed in this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application

Go to this folder using Windows File Explorer, or copy and paste the path directly into the File Explorer’s search bar.

Step 2: Find the msedge.exe File

In the folder, look for a file named msedge.exe. This is the main file that launches Microsoft Edge.

Step 3: Create the Shortcut

  1. Right-click on the msedge.exe file.
  2. Select Create shortcut from the context menu.

Windows will then automatically prompt you to place the shortcut on the desktop.

Step 4: Move the Shortcut to the Desktop (if needed)

If Windows doesn’t automatically place the shortcut on the desktop, you can manually drag and drop it from the folder to the desktop.

Additional Shortcut Settings

If you'd like, you can rename the shortcut to make it more recognizable. Just right-click on it, select Rename, and type a new name like Microsoft Edge.
