How to Disable Background Blur on the Lock Screen in Windows 10

The background blur effect on the Windows 10 lock screen was added to improve readability of interface elements. However, many users may find it unnecessary, as it hides the beautiful lock screen wallpaper. Here are several methods to disable this blur effect.

Method 1: Disable Blur through Personalization Settings

  1. Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
  2. Go to Personalization and select Lock Screen.
  3. On the right side, locate the Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen option and switch it Off.

This should disable the blur effect on the sign-in screen. However, if the lock screen blur persists, try the next method.

Method 2: Disable Blur via Local Group Policy Editor

This option is available only for Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise users:

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon.
  3. Open the Show Clear Logon Background setting, set it to Enabled, and then click Apply and OK.

This will disable the blur effect on the lock screen.

Method 3: Disable Blur via Registry Editor

For Windows 10 Home users or those who prefer using the Registry Editor:

  1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System.
  3. If the System folder does not exist, right-click on Windows, select New > Key, and name it "System".
  4. In the System folder, right-click, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it DisableAcrylicBackgroundOnLogon.
  5. Double-click the new value and set it to 1. Click OK.

After closing the Registry Editor and restarting your computer, the lock screen background blur should be disabled.
