How to Disable Mouse Acceleration in Windows 10 and Windows 11

Mouse acceleration in Windows 10 and Windows 11 can sometimes interfere with precise cursor control, especially for those working in gaming or graphic design. Disabling this feature allows the cursor to move at a constant speed, resulting in more predictable and accurate tracking. This guide will walk you through how to disable mouse acceleration on both versions of the operating system.

Step 1: Open Mouse Settings

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to the Devices section (or just Bluetooth & Devices in Windows 11).
  3. Select Mouse from the left menu.

Step 2: Go to Additional Mouse Settings

  1. In the mouse settings, scroll down and select Additional mouse options. This will open the “Mouse Properties” window.

Step 3: Disable Mouse Acceleration

  1. Go to the Pointer Options tab.
  2. Uncheck the box for Enhance pointer precision. This is the mouse acceleration feature.
  3. Click Apply, then OK to save the changes.

Step 4: Test the Settings

After disabling mouse acceleration, you can test the new setting by moving the cursor around to see how it responds to your mouse movements. If the cursor now moves more predictably and steadily, you’ve successfully configured the settings.

Why Disable Mouse Acceleration?

Disabling mouse acceleration is beneficial for users who need precise cursor control, such as in gaming or graphic work. With acceleration turned off, the mouse responds to movements more consistently, allowing users to develop "muscle memory" for exact positioning.
