How to Enable Hidden Themes in Windows 11
Windows 11 includes several hidden themes that don’t show up in the standard settings. These themes were initially added for educational editions, like Windows 11 Education, and are primarily meant for schools and other educational institutions. However, they can be unlocked in any version of Windows 11. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to activate these hidden themes.
Step 1: Open File Explorer and Locate the Hidden Themes
The first step is to locate the directory where these theme files are stored. Open File Explorer and navigate to the following path:
C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT
In the MCT
folder, you’ll find several other folders, such as MCT-AU
, MCT-CA
, MCT-GB
, and others. Each of these folders contains unique themes and wallpapers for different regions.
Step 2: Install the Themes from the Folder
To install a theme, open any folder, such as MCT-AU
. Inside, you’ll see a folder labeled Theme
. Double-click the .theme
file inside, and Windows 11 will automatically apply the new theme.
Step 3: Check the Themes List in Settings
After activating the theme, go to Settings > Personalization > Themes to confirm that the new theme has been added to the available list. You can now switch to it anytime.
Tip: Customize Your Own Theme Based on the Hidden Ones
If you like the wallpapers or color scheme of one of these hidden themes, you can use its elements to create a custom theme. Go to Settings > Personalization > Background and select a wallpaper from the new theme, then save it as a new setting.
