How to Open the Classic Volume Mixer in Windows 11
With the changes introduced in Windows 11, many users find it challenging to locate the classic Volume Mixer they were accustomed to in previous versions. While the new sound interface offers a different look, the classic Volume Mixer is still accessible using a few simple methods. Here’s how you can quickly open it.
Method 1: Using the "Run" Command
This method allows you to open the classic Volume Mixer through the Run
dialog:
- Press Win + R to open the
Run
dialog box. - Type
sndvol.exe
and press Enter. - The classic Volume Mixer will open, allowing you to control the volume of individual apps separately.
Method 2: From the Taskbar Sound Icon
Despite the new interface, you can still access the Volume Mixer via the taskbar sound icon:
- Right-click the speaker icon in the bottom right corner of the taskbar.
- Select Open Sound Settings.
- Scroll down and find the Volume Mixer button under Advanced sound options.
Although this opens the new volume interface, it still allows you to adjust the volume of individual applications, which might be useful.
Method 3: Using Command Prompt or PowerShell
If you prefer using the command line, you can launch the classic Volume Mixer with a simple command:
start sndvol.exe
Enter this command in the Command Prompt or PowerShell and press Enter.
