How to Remove "Quick Access" from File Explorer in Windows 10 and Windows 11

If you’re not a fan of the "Quick Access" feature in Windows File Explorer and want to get rid of it, follow these easy steps. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to disable "Quick Access" in Windows 10 and Windows 11 so that File Explorer opens directly to the page you prefer.

Steps to Disable "Quick Access" in Windows 10 and Windows 11

Step 1: Open File Explorer

First, open File Explorer by pressing Win + E or by selecting the File Explorer icon on the taskbar.

Step 2: Go to Folder Options

Click on the View tab at the top of the File Explorer window, then select Options (sometimes labeled as Folder and Search Options).

Step 3: Set the Start Page

In the "Folder Options" window that appears, go to the General tab and locate the Open File Explorer to setting. From the dropdown menu, select This PC instead of Quick Access. This change will make File Explorer open directly to "This PC" rather than "Quick Access".

Step 4: Disable Recent and Frequently Used Files

To hide recently used and frequently accessed files, uncheck the options:

  • Show recently used files in Quick Access
  • Show frequently used folders in Quick Access

You’ll find these options in the same "Folder Options" window. After unchecking them, click Apply and then OK.

How to Re-enable "Quick Access" if You Change Your Mind

If you decide to bring "Quick Access" back, simply repeat the steps and select "Quick Access" in the "Open File Explorer to" dropdown. Recheck the boxes for showing recent and frequently used files if needed.
