How to Remove the "Change Boot Options" Screen on Windows Startup
If you encounter the "Change Boot Options" screen every time Windows starts, it can be a frustrating issue. This screen often appears due to misconfigured boot settings or pending system updates. In this guide, we’ll walk through steps to disable this screen and set up your system for a smoother startup experience.
1. Check Boot Options in msconfig
The first step is to review boot settings using the "System Configuration" tool:
- Press Win + R, type
msconfig
, and press Enter. - Go to the Boot tab.
- Ensure that Safe Boot or any other special options are not selected.
- Uncheck any unnecessary options, then apply the changes.
Restart your computer and check if the screen no longer appears.
2. Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs and Services
Sometimes, the "Change Boot Options" screen appears due to conflicts with startup programs:
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Go to the Startup tab and disable any programs you don’t need on startup.
This can reduce boot time and lower the chance of unnecessary screens appearing.
3. Check for System Updates
Pending updates can also trigger issues at startup:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Check for updates and install any that are available.
Once updates are installed, restart your system to see if the issue is resolved.
4. Check UEFI/BIOS Configuration
In some cases, the issue may be related to boot settings in the BIOS/UEFI. Check your system’s configuration:
- Restart your computer and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del at startup).
- Ensure that boot mode is set to “UEFI” (if supported) and that no unnecessary boot devices are selected.
5. Use System Recovery Tools
If the previous steps didn’t work, try restoring system settings:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
- Look for the Reset this PC section and follow the instructions provided.
This process will help restore standard settings and remove any unwanted boot screens.
