How to Restore the Download Bar at the Bottom of Google Chrome
With recent updates in Google Chrome, the classic download bar at the bottom of the window has been moved or replaced by pop-up notifications. Many users found the bottom bar convenient as it allowed them to easily monitor download progress. Unfortunately, there’s no direct way to restore the download bar through Chrome settings, but there are a few workarounds.
Ways to Bring Back the Bottom Download Bar
1. Installing a Third-Party Extension
Certain extensions can help recreate the old interface or offer an alternative download toolbar. Here’s how:
- Go to the Chrome Web Store.
- Search for “Download Manager” or “Downloads Toolbar.”
- Install an extension that adds a bottom download bar or lets you pin it to a desired location.
2. Using an Older Version of Chrome (not recommended)
You could install an older version of Chrome where the download bar was still located at the bottom. However, be aware that this approach may lower browser security, as older versions do not receive security updates or support.
To install an older version:
- Uninstall the current version of Google Chrome (make sure to save important data and passwords).
- Download the preferred version from FileHippo or another reliable source.
- Install the older version and disable automatic updates.
3. Using Chromium-Based Browsers
If you prefer the old interface, you may want to try alternative Chromium-based browsers that provide similar functionality and customizable download bars, like Vivaldi or Opera. These browsers also allow you to import all your data from Chrome for a smoother transition.
