Screen Recording on Windows 11 Using Built-in Tools
If you need to record your screen on a Windows 11 computer, you don’t necessarily need third-party software. Windows 11 comes with built-in tools that make it simple to capture screen activity. In this guide, we’ll show you how to use Windows 11’s built-in features for screen recording.
1. Using Xbox Game Bar
Windows 11, like previous versions, includes the Xbox Game Bar tool, designed primarily for recording gameplay but also suitable for capturing other types of screen activity.
Steps to record your screen using Xbox Game Bar:
- Open the application or window you want to record.
- Press the Win + G keys to open the Xbox Game Bar overlay.
- In the top bar, click on the camera icon (the recording icon), or use the shortcut Win + Alt + R to start recording.
- To stop recording, press Win + Alt + R again or use the recording control panel.
After you stop recording, the video will be saved in the “Videos” folder under Captures. You can find it at: C:\Users\Your_User_Name\Videos\Captures
.
2. Limitations and Tips for Using Xbox Game Bar
Note that Xbox Game Bar may not support recording the entire desktop or specific interface elements outside of active applications. If you need to record outside an app window, you may want to consider other software for more complex tasks.
Tips for a Quality Recording:
- Close unnecessary programs before recording to reduce system load.
- Check microphone settings to ensure the correct audio device is selected if you want to record audio input.
- In the Xbox Game Bar settings, you can adjust recording quality by setting video and audio parameters.
3. Customizing Xbox Game Bar
To adjust recording settings, go to Settings → Gaming → Captures. Here, you can select recording quality, frame rate, and adjust audio recording options.
