Where to Find the Archive in Gmail and How to Retrieve Emails from It
In Gmail, the archive function allows you to remove emails from the inbox without deleting them. This feature helps keep your inbox organized while still retaining access to important messages. However, Gmail does not have a separate “Archive” folder, which can make finding these emails tricky.
How to Find Archived Emails in Gmail
All your emails, including archived ones, are stored in the “All Mail” section. To access it, follow these steps:
- Open Gmail on your computer.
- In the left sidebar, scroll down and click on “More.”
- Select “All Mail.”
This section displays all your messages, including archived ones. Note: if an email doesn’t have the “Inbox” label, it’s archived.
How to Restore an Archived Email to the Inbox
If you want to return an archived email to your inbox, follow these steps:
- In the “All Mail” section, locate the email you want to retrieve.
- Check the box next to it.
- Click on the “Move to Inbox” icon at the top toolbar.
The email will then reappear in your inbox.
Searching for Archived Emails
If you remember the subject, sender, or keywords from the email, use the search bar at the top of Gmail. The search results will show all matching emails, including archived ones.
Accessing Archived Emails in the Gmail Mobile App
In the Gmail mobile app for Android and iOS, you can find archived emails similarly:
- Open the Gmail app.
- Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner.
- Scroll down and select “All Mail.”
To restore an email from the app:
- Open the desired email.
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select “Move to Inbox.”
